Scratch
Today I was working on Scratch. It was my first experience with this site and I really had so much fun. The top picture is a whirl of the first one. We were learning about coding and this was the second site we used for it.

Pastel art 🖍🎨
Yesterday we started an artwork about the plant’s in our class. We used oil and chalk pastels. The reliever in our class taught us how to blend the pastel colours and how to do different effects or techniques with them. My favorite pastel was the chalk pastel since it was easier to blend and more controllable. I think I did pretty well with this art. I would definitely like to do this art again but on a different topic.

E-asttle reading
From my first e-asttle reading to now I have accelerated. In Term 1 I got 4A whereas in Term 4 I got 5B. I am proud of my results. I think I have accelerated because I have been more focused and I actually enjoy reading.

Elephant toothpaste 🐘
Today we were making elephant toothpaste. A book we read shared with us on how to make it. It was part of our inquiry as an experiment to see a chemical change which means it’s irreversible. The ingredients we used were:
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Food colouring
- Dishwashing liquid
- Warm water
- Yeast
The elephant toothpaste was a fun experiment so the whole group contributed in some ways. We didn’t put much of the yeast mixture in which is why it worked just how we wanted it to. I enjoyed doing this yet I would have liked it more if it went faster. Here is a link to the text I read.

What I need help with? ~Explanation~
Today I used storyboardthat to make a comic about my struggles. There are many things I need to work on with explanation writing yet it's mostly with sequence/structure. I actually sturggle a lot with explanation writing. Actually when it comes to writing I don't really find it hard, though explanation writing is really hard for me.

With my basic facts I have stepped up a level. I have consolidated my knowledge with fractions. In my previous test I got 92% which means that I have to move up. Stage 8 was a bit challenging but I’m just going to have to push myself. Next I would like to revise two step equations with integers. By the end of this year I would like to be above the national standard since being At is where I usually am and I want to step up the pace.

✋🖌 Henna~ ✋🖌
Yesterday for art we were doing henna. For a few days now, we have been learning about Diwali. The girls from our class were intrigued by the henna art so we asked if we could do it. Using the henna liquid we made simple designs on our arms. Some of us used google while the others just improvised. I really enjoyed doing this art, it was different and really fun.

Chemical change
This morning we were making pancakes to prove that there is a chemical change. Before we could do anything we had to learn about the scientific method. After about 10 minutes we went to the hall to start out experiment. The ingredients we had were combined to make a batter. Next was to cook it. When it was on the pan it showed signs of chemical change. We could tell there was a chemical change because there was bubbles forming,
Release of gases, colour change,
and obviously a temperature change. Due to the heat the chemical change became edible, as well as that, a new substance was formed which could not be reversed.

🎆 Happy Diwali~ 🎆
A big celebration, Diwali is also known as the festival of lights. Diwali is celebrated all over the world and is considered one of the biggest Hindu celebrations. This year, Diwali starts from the 18th of October - 22nd of October. In India it goes on for 5 days.
Families who celebrate Diwali clean their houses so that the Gods would feel welcome. Gifts are given out to friends and family such as gold, sweets, etc. They would get dressed up in new clothes and have a vegetarian dinner. Fireworks are shot up into the sky at night, making it hard to see anything because of all the gunpowder/dust.
Near the doorway there would be a rangoli pattern on the floor which is like a greeting for guests. Our class made some rangoli patterns using chalk. The patterns had to be symmetrical. However, the traditional way, is by using coloured powder or broken rice like one of our teachers in the school.
I learnt that it is a huge Hindu celebration that is in fact quite similar to a few things celebrated in Auckland. It also broadened my mind to how different celebrations are in other cultures or religions. The fact that Hindus aren’t afraid to embrace their culture when it comes to Diwali is something I find very fascinating.

🕑 Time vocabulary 📝
Today during the morning block the class was learning about time. We were given a paper and pen to write down words related to time. The group I worked with came up with quite a few words for time. With the other groups we put together our words and gathered up some more from our teacher. Afterwards we created a word cloud, which I found very fun and interesting since there were different designs to choose from.

😔 Meditation 😔
For about 3 terms we have been meditating after our two breaks. At first I was a bit wriggly and found it hard to focus yet I have improved and can sit still while clearing my mind. The meditation has also helped me to stay more focused both in class and with my work.

Battleships
For the open day at Tamaki College we had different classes to go to, one of them being maths. When we did maths we learnt about coordinates. To help with everyones understanding we played a game using battleships. We had to guess each others coordinated and if we got it right one part of the ship would explode. If all the points were found then your ship had sunk or blown up.

Isabella's misjudgement
A full moon was on the horizon. The wind brushed through Isabella’s golden hair. Twinning with it was the sand that tickled her toes, even at the slightest movement. Isabella’s reflection bounced off the glistening water and into her soft hazel eyes.
At home Isabella was greeted by her two young brothers. They were bawling and their eyes were as puffy as the fur on a Pomeranian. The frightened teenager pulled both into a tight embrace and asked them for an explanation. Isabella marched to her parents and asked, “Is it true? Are we really leaving?” The silence that came from her parents wasn’t a good sign. She stormed out of the room and dug her head into her pillow. Isabella tried to find the silver lining but there was none. She was going to leave her friends, school and most importantly her precious memories in Auckland.
After a crying herself to sleep Isabella was awoken by a bright light. The sun beamed through her window. With a heavy groan Isabella turned to read the clock, it read 9:56 AM. Luckily it was Saturday, the starting of the holiday. When Isabella entered the kitchen she instantly turned. Her parents were there and they wanted to talk. After 30 minutes of talking Isabella realised how wrongly accused her parents were. Going to Brisbane wasn’t forever it was just for the holiday. Isabella’s smiled from ear to ear. She was ecstatic.
The plane ride was great. Since it was a first time for Isabella she didn’t really have much to compare it with. Brisbane from a bird's eyes view was just breathtaking. The family took photo’s and visited so many places. Sadly everything had to come to an end. Everyone returned home safely and continued with their lives.

Reflections on Round Robin Writing
Today the writing lesson was a bit different. We played Round Robin Writing. I thought it was a great idea. Also since both my partners were contributing and sharing their ideas. I enjoyed the lesson yet something that I would like to change is the time limits. Three minutes for planning is fine but five minutes for writing, I would like it to be moved up to about seven minutes. I think we should try this out again because it was so much fun.

Eua Island
Last week and this week I have been reading stories for tongan language week. Even though Tongan language week was last week. My task was to read 5 stories and draw pictures to indicate what was happening in the story. The picture above is the first story I drew up about how the Eua Island was created.

The big water winds
The wind howled menacingly like a wolf at the full moon. Lightning licked across the evil sky: a serpent’s tongue tormenting the clouds. The Earth began to shatter…
My bare face was exposed to the ice cold air. I tugged on the two strings on my hoodie, forcing my soaked jacket to give me a tight hug. I clenched onto my microphone and practically yelled at the camera. It was like my mouth was being constantly filled with salt. At full speed the wind went at my cameraman which made him unsteady. He tried to hide his fear, but his eyes said it all.
It finally came. The second thing we feared the most. I ripped out my earpiece which had bugged me since the start. The static was just too much. After I did that I saw the faces of my crew scrunch up. I also noticed the red light that indicates we’re recording had disappeared. A deep sigh escaped my mouth. In this type of weather we should have expected that our connection to the news company would eventually cut.
The crew became frantic and started a search for something that might help. My cameraman remained calm and yanked something out from the trunk of our van. It took quite a while for him to get what he wanted since the crew were also searching through the van. The thing my cameraman picked out was a portable generator. Sadly it wouldn’t turn on. It drowned.
The head of the crew, Michael, shouted for everyone to calm down. He pulled out a big black box while I zipped another jacket and covered my microphone with my right arm. Michael placed an antenna on top of the van and played around with some wires. Suddenly the red light flashed on and I was on with my words once again. In a blink of an eye the antenna flew off the van and straight into the water. We were back at the start.
After a few minutes a light bulb appeared on the top of my head. If our connection is lost here, then what would it be like somewhere else? I thought to myself. After talking to the crew we set off. After 20 - 25 minutes we came to a stop. Michael said that there should be a connection around here. We all went out and I got ready to yell. The red light popped up and in no time we finished our part for the news.
Even though we had a rough time it was an experience I can add to my life. The floods level never stayed the same and the falling buildings that were hit by the voracious wind. A few of my crew did get injured but they still worked hard, which I was very thankful for. They could have been cowards yet they strived to give people their long awaited news. However we were lucky that no one was swept away besides the antenna.

Perpendicular
Today for maths we were learning how to draw a perpendicular. We used a compass. It took me a few times to get used to the compass. A perpendicular is always at a 90° angle. I enjoyed learning about this new math topic. I now know how to draw up a good perpendicular.

Intergarating - Vocabulary and Reading
Maori Myth: The tohunga
Protagonist is our word for the day. We had to read a Maori Myth and then write about the protagonist in that story.
The protagonist in the text is the tohunga. The tohunga was an old priest that used to be well known back in the day. The kids in the village would disrespect him yet he stayed calm and didn’t yell at them. He was a kind man. He was also very wise and could tell what was to come in the future.

Tongan language week
Last week it was Tongan language week. We had been doing our fair share of learning the Tongan language. A Tongan teacher did a dance to end of the Tongan language week. It was the first time she had ever danced for the school, which I thought was pretty amazing.

Losing the fight
Today we had our E-asttle strand test and I have sadly moved down. I was at a 5B but now I am at a 4P. Now I must work harder with measurement and probability, so that I can get to a 4A or more. I really want to accelerate with my learning so I will work harder with my, "gaps" and "to be achieved." However I did do well with my statistics.

Tongan language week
This week is Tongan language week and these are a few things we have displayed in the foyer at our school. We have these things displayed to give more awareness and information about Tonga. Our teacher said that we would be learning how to count in Tongan, which I think is really exciting. I would adore if people not only in New Zealand but around the world would ignore the race, religion and colour of others so that we can all live peacefully. Personally if I could, I would raise awareness of how hurtful judging someone can be which hopefully could get people to stop judging others.

🐨 Koala pun 🐨
We were learning about puns for the past few days, which is a play of words. Our teacher introduced us to puns using, “brainwashing.” She showed us the literal meaning which was washing an actual brain however the pun was to manipulate or make someone do something for you. I used google to help create my pun which says, “What do you mean I’m not a bear? - I have all the koalafications. That pun has just switched the word “quali” in qualifications to koala.
