Reciprocals - Fraction

Screenshot 2017-03-31 at 9.54.11 AM.png

Today I completed an activity where I had to find the reciprocals. Reciprocals is something I find extremely easy.  It’s just the second fraction from your equation flipped over. I enjoyed doing this activity, I also catched on pretty quickly which. If you want to try this out here is the link.

Omaru Creek metaphor poem - Te Taiao o Tāmaki

Heather is a lumpy grey rock that holds onto rubbish flowing by.

Heather is a tall bulrush that sways from left to right in the breeze.

Heather is a stinky stench lingering through the bushes and into people's nose.

Improper Fractions

Screenshot 2017-03-27 at 11.18.58 AM.png

Today I was playing a maths game about improper fractions. At first I thought it was just a random improper fraction game yet it was totally different. The game was actually teaching me multiple ways of writing an improper fraction, whether in a mixed number or decimal. I had no knowledge of writing improper fractions in decimal form however now I do. I found this game very helpful since it taught me something new which I understand well and that shows sign of my ACCELERATION!

Today, Friday 24th of March the senior part of our school had finished up their swimming. Different ages and skills could be seen in the pool. I did not take part yet I did enjoy watching the kids swim.

Fraction Monkeys

Screenshot 2017-03-23 at 10.13.21 AM.png

In this maths activity I was learning, well I was actually practising my knowledge of fractions. As for I was given a number line with specific fractions on the top and I had to drag the monkey correctly onto the line. I also had to know equivalent fractions since some of the monkeys I was given were equivalent to the fractions above the number line. I thought this activity was easy because I have a strong understanding of fractions and I did not really struggle with anything.

Investigation into volleyball skills in Room 8

BeFunky Collage.jpg

On a google spreadsheet I put in numbers to indicate the way I play volleyball. Using online tools that were given on the top right corner of the spreadsheet made it easy to create both a bar graph and pie chart. I also had to find the mean or average of the numbers our class put in. I found this task very easy as for it was just a few clicks of a button.

Get New Zealand Writing

For the past few days we have been getting a package ready for Grey Main School in Greymouth. They are from the South Island and we are still waiting for their package to arrive. We do hope that they enjoy reading our metaphor poems and other things that we provided for them. Our class is proud to be apart of the programme, "Get New Zealand Writing."  We are one of the  3000 participating schools.

Room 8 Metaphor Poem

Walt: write a poem using metaphors

Room 8 would be a school bus filled with a few enthusiastic and indifferent children.
Room 8 would be a crazy uncontrolled boar.
Room 8 would be an unappealing sweater that has a few rough patches yet the it’s still very comfortable.

Statistical Investigation - Te Taiao o Tāmaki

Screenshot 2017-03-07 at 2.02.29 PM.png

Walt:  conduct a statistical investigation.

We used google maps to determine the walking  distance to 124 Apirana Avenue. This is the entrance to the Omaru Creek that we are studying. The screenshot shows the route, distance and time from my house to the creek. Zain lives the furthest which is 4.8 Kilometers and it would take him 59 minutes to get there. As for Jolie who lives the closest which is 550 metres yet it would take her 7 minutes. Harrison who lives in East Tamaki calculated the distance from Glen Innes Station which is 550 metres and it would take 7 minutes, it’s similar to Jolie’s. Next, we will be calculating the mean and the median.

Divisibility Rules

Screenshot 2017-03-02 at 11.03.48 AM.png

When playing this maths game I really had fun. This game was about divisibility rules. At first I thought that would not understand yet I kept getting the correct answers without any help. My mind really was at work since the numbers used had 3 digits. I did not struggle with any of the questions that were given to me to solve.

Badminton

BeFunky Collage.jpg

I’ve never had a passion for playing sports but when I play badminton it’s a whole different story. Kylie our badminton coach taught us a few skills about badminton. The skill that I like and use best is backhand grip. If I could play badminton again I definitely would.
