Migration of Maori
According to Ms. Maude back in the day the Maori would use waka’s to get from place to place. There were 7 main waka’s which were Aotea, Tainui, Te Arawa, Tokomoru, Kurahaupo, Takitimu and Mataatua. In Hawaii a man named Kupe had a love for octopuses. He chased after one all through the pacific when suddenly he had found a land which was the North Island. Which he named, Aotearoa. Kupe decided to go back to Hawaii and get some chiefs to come with him to claim the land. One navigator (Ngatoroirangi) from the Tainui waka helped the people in the Te Arawa waka get around since they had lost their navigator. While Ngatoroirangi was going around the coast he was naming the places they had passed.

This book will appeal to...
If I had to recommend this book to anyone it would be to my older sister. She is the only sibling I have that enjoys reading as much as I do. I think that she would enjoy this book because it’s interesting and mysterious, things that my sister likes. We also watch a lot of Korean drama which most of the time is about a boy fighting for the one he loves. Which is like the Tin soldier in this story. Even though the goblin threw the Tin soldier out the window he still stood steadfast until he returned back to the lady he loved, the paper dancer.

Apple turnovers
Walht: use measurement to make an apple turnover
We used the following to make it:
- A scale
- Square pastry
- ½ apple
- Sugar
- Milk
- Baking paper
The first thing we did was cover up the desk with newspaper. There was a bowl of ¼ cut apples, we had to take two apples which made us have 12 of apples. Using the scale we weighed the apples and wrote the outcome in our books. Mine was 63 grams. Afterwards the baking paper was passed out and our square pastry went on top it so that once we put it on the scale it won't get germs. The weight for my pastry was 63 grams. Once that was done we cut up the apples and placed them on one side of the pastry so that when we flip it; it will have a triangle shape. We then sprinkled 1 teaspoon of sugar on top of the apples. After folding one side of the pastry we used a fork to kind of keep the pastry together. Using one spoon of milk we spilled it over the turnover and sprinkled ½ a teaspoon of sugar over it, leaving it in the oven to bake. Before it was put into the oven I weighed my prebaked apple turnover it was 98 grams. Our teacher weighed one post baked apple turnover and it weighed about 80 grams.

Healthy eating with Amanda, Jane, and Nick
After 2 activities were completed everyone took their gear and went upstairs for lunch. The tables were filled with fruits, vegetables and a few snacks. Amanda, Jane, and Nick were the three people who helped organise the food for us. They were telling us about how and why we should eat healthily. It was really delicious. Also a big thanks to both Nestle and Michelle, the food was really tasty.

Rock Climbing with Kiri
On May 9th 2017 it was my first experience rock climbing. We had one instructor, her name was Kiri. She was actually really kind. I did struggle a bit at first but then I started to get better. If I could I would love to go back. Thank you very much Nestle and Michelle for giving me the chance to experience something new.

Evil Twin
Walht: use our creative skills to write an interesting narrative.
The sky was a soft shade of blue with white foam floating across it. I peered out the transparent box on my wall, tippy toeing so that I could get a better view. Unfortunately it all took a turn when I saw my sister Mikayla’s friends out on the pavement waiting for her. Mikayla changed a lot since she met them, she was always playful, open minded and kind but not anymore. They have some sort of name for their group. One time my grandparents spotted them using spray cans to graffiti our neighbors fence.
Then suddenly a lightbulb appeared in my head. I knew exactly what to do. I trotted down the stairs and passed my parents room finally arriving at Mikayla’s door.
“I guess it wouldn’t be too hard to talk to her, right? She obviously wouldn’t tell her friends to beat me up…right?” I whispered to myself. “Stop speaking nonsense! It’s simple. Just walk in, talk, and leave.”
I softly tapped Mikayla’s white wooden door and turned the knob slightly. A tiny gap was revealed however in an instant I was smacked in the face with a horrible stench, I screwed up my nose and walked into the room. Mikayla lifted herself off her bed and put out her left hand, motioning me to leave. I reminded her about how she used to be as well as all the good memories we’ve had. But it failed, her face was completely blank. Next thing I knew Mikayla was trying to shove me out of her room, I tried to resist yet failed. I also tried to speak with her friends but it was the same thing, it was like they were using telepathy to connect with each other.
There was still one option left. While Mikayla was out with her friends I started up a conversation with my parents. I too reminded them of the old Mikayla however this time I went into detail, which made my parents waterworks go off. After my long speech I stared into my parents teary eyes. I felt as though I needed to make them laugh,
“Also, I think Mikayla has a dead fish in her room. It reeks in there,” I giggled. My parents both laughed.
“I know, but I took care of it yesterday. It was just some rotten bananas,” said my mum. Then they both nodded saying that they’ll talk to her later. After about an hour Mikayla returned home. I was upstairs on my bed peacefully listening to music when suddenly my door swung open. There stood Mikayla with a furious look on her face. A big lump formed in my throat when I saw Mikayla walk towards me. It was like the world stopped spinning. She finally got to the edge of my bed and lifted her right hand. I shut my eyes. I waited for the pain but instead was embraced with a hug. Still dumbfounded about Mikayla’s action, the shoulder where Mikayla’s head laid became damp, my eyes softened as I pulled away and asked her what happened. Turned out that she never wanted to be friends with them nor do the things they asked. They used her for her money and Mikayla knew that but she was too afraid to confront them. She did gather up the courage to, which was the reason of her meeting up with them. Now she’s started to be more, well, social.

NZ Herald 8/5/2017
By the looks of this poster/sign it’s easy to say that these people do not want lackers. I think this is quite fair because nowadays people are completely attached to their electronics, so much so that they don’t even leave the house. In my opinion it’d be pretty good because this job could probably teach the worker something new which may help them in the future. However I think that cell phones should be allowed just in case of emergency yet let the worker know that s/he is not meant to be on it, only incase of emergencies.

Walht: assign probabilities to simple events using fractions and percentages.
Today I was learning how to assign probabilities to a game played with two ten sided dice. I played with Harrison and we alternated rolling the dice. We did this 20 times. We recorded our score in the outcomes column and of the 20 attempts we were successful 6 times. So the probability is 6/20 as a simple fraction and 30% as a percentage. Since we did similar games this week I have a better understanding of probability. Next I ‘d like to play with three six sided dice.
