On June 27th 2017, the senior side of the school visited the Howick Historical Village. There were four activities that we had to go through. Since there were many students we had to break up into 4 groups. The first activity my group went to was old toys. I enjoyed playing with many of the old toys. I loved how none of the toys needed any batteries or a switch, it was all wood and rope. If I could I would choose my favorite however I just loved them all.
I am a Year 8 student at Glen Innes School in Auckland, New Zealand. I am in Room 8 and my teacher is Mrs Ramkolowan.

Matariki sisters
I worked together with Zain to create this poem about Matariki. We made this to somewhat celebrate Matariki and show our knowledge about Matariki since we have been learning about it for the past few weeks.

Matariki rhombus
Walht: identify and draw a rhombus
Vocabulary: Quadrilateral, parallelogram, parallel, diagonal, bisect, polygon, specialist, right angles, opposite, arrows, degrees
|
For this activity we had to use the seven stars of Matariki as points to draw a rhombus. A rhombus is a specialised four sided figure. It’s opposite lines are parallel and the diagonals must bisect each other to create a 90 degree angle.
I enjoyed doing this activity however I did have a few difficulties. Only about two words confused me which were bisect and parallelogram. However now I have a sound understanding of both what it means and what is a rhombus.

Volume activities
Today, during the morning block I have been doing math activities. The activities had to do with volume. I enjoyed doing these as it helped me get a better understanding of volume. To complete these activities I had to have a strong understanding of multiplication. However since I do know my multiplication I found these activities easy.

Sugar cube box ~100~
Walht: create a box to fit 100 sugar cubes
This morning for mathematics the class created a box to fit 100 sugar cubes. We didn’t have any sugar cubes so we used square cubes just for pretend. Some students struggled with the task but since we prepared the day before I already had something in mind. I enjoyed doing this and would like to try another task however with different material.

Mini Quiche
Today at food tech we made 12 mini quiches. I was a bit behind but still completed it. Next week we will be making bigger ones and I am so excited.
Learning angles
This week we have been learning about angles. Our teacher taped one desk in a group and we had to measure the angle with a protractor.Thereafter, we had to name it according to its measurement. Most of the angles on my desk were acute angles but had only a few obtuse. I enjoyed doing this task and was doing really well at it.

YIPPEE~!!! 👍😆
I have accelerated with my reading. My results moved from a 4A to 5P during Term one and two. I am above the standard for a year eight student. Though I am above, I am not over the moon with my results since I am confident that I can do better.

HOORAY! 👏👍
I have accelerated in maths. My results have moved from, 4P to 5B during Term 1 and 2. I think I have moved up because I listened and focused during the lessons that were taking place. The feeling I have is good but I know I can do better, so I will try to. Next time I would like to get either a 5B or 5A.
