Scratch

Today I was working on Scratch. It was my first experience with this site and I really had so much fun. The top picture is a whirl of the first one. We were learning about coding and this was the second site we used for it.

Sumdog Competition

For the past few days our class has been going against other classes in a sumdog maths competition. The questions weren't that challenging yet they did allow me to think very hard. Our school had a class each holding there own place in the top 3. The class we're in came second and I'm so proud of everyone. From the competition, I learnt some things that I didn't know before, especially with things related to 90° angles

Pastel art 🖍🎨

Yesterday we started an artwork about the plant’s in our class. We used oil and chalk pastels. The reliever in our class taught us how to blend the pastel colours and how to do different effects or techniques with them. My favorite pastel was the chalk pastel since it was easier to blend and more controllable. I think I did pretty well with this art. I would definitely like to do this art again but on a different topic.

E-asttle reading

From my first e-asttle reading to now I have accelerated. In Term 1 I got 4A whereas in Term 4 I got 5B. I am proud of my results. I think I have accelerated because I have been more focused and I actually enjoy reading.

Elephant toothpaste 🐘

Screenshot 2017-11-02 at 12.17.17.png

Today we were making elephant toothpaste. A book we read shared with us on how to make it. It was part of our inquiry as an experiment to see a chemical change which means it’s irreversible. The ingredients we used were:

  1. Hydrogen peroxide
  2. Food colouring
  3. Dishwashing liquid
  4. Warm water
  5. Yeast

The elephant toothpaste was a fun experiment so the whole group contributed in some ways. We didn’t put much of the yeast mixture in which is why it worked just how we wanted it to. I enjoyed doing this yet I would have liked it more if it went faster. Here is a link to the text I read.

What I need help with? ~Explanation~

Today I used storyboardthat to make a comic about my struggles. There are many things I need to work on with explanation writing yet it's mostly with sequence/structure. I actually sturggle a lot with explanation writing. Actually when it comes to writing I don't really find it hard, though explanation writing is really hard for me.

With my basic facts I have stepped up a level. I have consolidated my knowledge with fractions. In my previous test I got 92% which means that I have to move up. Stage 8 was a bit challenging but I’m just going to have to push myself. Next I would like to revise two step equations with integers. By the end of this year I would like to be above the national standard since being At is where I usually am and I want to step up the pace.

Chemical change: Fire 🔥

Chemical change: Fire
Ask a question - When will I notice a chemical change?
Construct a hypothesis( make a guess) - When the match/paper is lit.
Conduct the experiment - //Making a fire//
IMG_5034.JPG IMG_5038.JPG
Record your observations and data colour change -

  1. Colour change
  2. Temperature change
  3. Release of gas
  4. It became irreversible
  5. A new substance was formed
Analyse information -
Once the newspaper was on fire it turned into a new substance, ash. The temperature change caused the newspaper to break, turn black, smell and smoke up. The smoke is also a release of gas. As for colour change it turned black.

✋🖌 Henna~ ✋🖌

BeFunky Collage.jpg

Yesterday for art we were doing henna. For a few days now, we have been learning about Diwali. The girls from our class were intrigued by the henna art so we asked if we could do it. Using the henna liquid we made simple designs on our arms. Some of us used google while the others just improvised. I really enjoyed doing this art, it was different and really fun.

Chemical change

This morning we were making pancakes to prove that there is a chemical change. Before we could do anything we had to learn about the scientific method. After about 10 minutes we went to the hall to start out experiment. The ingredients  we had were combined to make a batter. Next was to cook it. When it was on the pan it showed signs of chemical change. We could tell there was a chemical change because there was bubbles forming,

Release of gases, colour change,

and obviously a temperature change. Due to the heat the chemical change became edible, as well as that, a new substance was formed which could not be reversed.

🎆 Happy Diwali~ 🎆

BeFunky Collage.jpgScreenshot 2017-10-19 at 12.32.17 PM.png

A big celebration, Diwali is also known as the festival of lights. Diwali is celebrated all over the world and is considered one of the biggest Hindu celebrations. This year, Diwali starts from the 18th of October - 22nd of October. In India it goes on for 5 days.

Families who celebrate Diwali clean their houses so that the Gods would feel welcome. Gifts are given out to friends and family such as gold, sweets, etc. They would get dressed up in new clothes and have a vegetarian dinner. Fireworks are shot up into the sky at night, making it hard to see anything because of all the gunpowder/dust.

Near the doorway there would be a rangoli pattern on the floor which is like a greeting for guests. Our class made some rangoli patterns using chalk. The patterns had to be symmetrical. However, the traditional way, is by using coloured powder or broken rice like one of our teachers in the school.

I learnt that it is a huge Hindu celebration that is in fact quite similar to a few things celebrated in Auckland. It also broadened my mind to how different celebrations are in other cultures or religions. The fact that Hindus aren’t afraid to embrace their culture when it comes to Diwali is something I find very fascinating.
