For a few days our principal gave us a challenge to predict whether he can lift someone just by his thumb. On Friday Mr Hendricks put his challenge to the test, and brought out a lever and fulcrum to lift one of the children. He positioned the piece of wood, with his thumb steady on one side and a student on the other. To our surprise Mr Hendricks pushed down on the lever with his thumb and suddenly the boy went up. I was amazed at the sight of him “lifting” the boy.

I really like how the principle set out a challenge and used a simple machine involved in your learning. I have also experienced him lifting a student in my class. Can you figure out another way of lifting someone using a simple machine?
